Is Emporia keeping an eye on you?

Being a foreigner in Sweden, I find one thing a bit annoying. The fact that it is intrusion on your privacy to have security cameras in public places. This law, or lawless, is keeping the crime-rate higher than necessary and thiefs can easily do their ‘job’ in garages and train stations without interruption. The same goes for violent crimes in public squares and streets that many civilised countries have equipped with security cameras with good success.

Therefore I was a little surprised when I drove into Emporia for the first time. The parking ticket had my licence plate number written on it. So it made me think. My landlord is not allowed to equip the garage with cameras because it violates the human rights of thiefs, but Emporia can have cameras to scan license plates and collect data on their visitors. Where will it end? Will they collect my credit card number when I pay for parking? Will they send me targeted advertising “It has been while since your last visit, why don’t you come again” ?

Emporia, I don’t like you spying on me.
